About the Piece
A lovely shell cameo ring from the first part of the 20th century. The cameo depicts a soft, feminine profile carved from a solid piece of shell. The profile in white and the background warm orange. The cameo is held by four compass-point claws, arranged north, east, south and west.
Split shoulders lead into a double band, adding structure to the design while keeping the focus on the cameo. The contrast between the delicate profile and the more structured setting gives this ring an interesting balance of softness and character.
